5 Healthy Ways to Restore Your Skin

Better skin in two months? Improve your skin complexion and texture with these tips from the experts.  We have to swap out some daily habits and be more aware of other lifestyle factors that could help you figure out how to get better skin.

  1. Cleansing

It may sound ‘old-school’. Washing your face is super important as it cleans away dirt, oil, bacteria and traces of make-up that would otherwise be left sitting on your skin. This includes touching your mobile phone to your ear, touching your face as you brush away loose strands of hair, or even accidentally touching your face during the day.  Not washing your face lays the ground work for clogged pores, irritated skin and breakouts. Plus, the stakes get even higher if you are also wearing a face full of makeup.

  • Stick to washing your face twice a day – once in the morning to cleanse any oil and dirt that has built up overnight, and once in the evening to remove any dirt, bacteria and make-up.
  • Use a non-soap cleanser that is suited to your skin. If possible, try to avoid harsh chemicals as these can be irritating and drying out your skin. Choose a ‘non-soap’ and natural cleanser that helps to maintain your skin’s pH balance, leaving your skin feels fresh, clean without dryness .
  • Treat your skin gentle. Use pure cotton muslin cloths for gently exfoliation, lifting away dead skin cells to reveal smoother and clearer looking skin.
  • Choose natural skin care that is rich in essential oils, herbal extracts, natural vitamins and plant-based extracts that are assimilated easily and quickly by the skin. Check out Kathleen Natural Refreshing and Lightening Cleansing Lotion.

2. Drink Water

Even with a small amount of dehydration, your body functions in a less optimal way. It will take a toll on your skin, causing it to look dull, flaky, saggy and loose.

  • You need to drink a minimum of 2.5-3 liters (6 to 8 glasses) of water per day.
  • Drinking water also helps to eliminate toxins from your body.
  • If drinking water isn’t your thing, you can drink herbal tea or add slices of lemon to your drink.
  • Water is your best friend and it helps keep skin healthy, smooth and plump!

3. Skin Hydration

Skin hydration keeps the top layer of skin cells hydrated and seals in moisture, and emollients to smooth the spaces between skin cells.

4. Nutrition

Easy At-home Facial Pressure Points Massage

If you’ve never heard about the facial pressure points, learn about this easy life trick, ending the week with something fun and relaxing.

The process is simple, soothing and has many benefits, from relaxing and wiping away fine line to boosting energy and bringing you into a balance. This type of massage is all about acupressure, and stimulation the pressure points on your face!

Learn all the facial pressure points below and spend three to five minutes to have a facial pressure points massage after my face wash every night.

As Explained in a diagram

Using the finger tips

– Perform each movement three times, and

– Press at the beginning and ending points of each movement for 3 seconds.

Major pressure points

Eye (Press the inner eyebrow and the temple)

Ear (Press the hollow just in front of the ear)

Nose (Press at either side of the nostril)

Neck (Press the hollow just below the lower jaw)

This simple pressure points massage improves circulation by gently enhancing the metabolism of the skin while relaxing tight and tired facial muscles.  The movements also work along lymphatic nodes of the face, pumping out toxin and water retention that can cause puffiness and sluggish skin.

DO 2 IN CLINIC TREATMENTS AT HOME

I must admit I am too busy to perform this pressure points massage every day.  Instead I love to use Kathleen Natural Facial Ionic Treatment Device weekly to do my facial massage.

Facial Ionic Treatment Device is a cordless, inexpensive and surprisingly effective equipment to improve skin appearance. This facial treatment device has combined the ionic micro-current and pulsations to let you have two different in-clinic treatments at home!

(1) Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic Drainage is a therapeutic massage treatment using by different spas.  The massage uses very gentle and long rhythmic strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in our face. Lymph is a key immune system by draining away toxins from our body.

Therefore, lymphatic drainage massage is good for relaxing, improving circulation and pumping out toxin and water retention.

(2) Facelift Treatment

Ionic treatment is a popular facial treatment which uses a large quantity of negative ion to push the nutrients from the skin care products into deeper layers of the skin. It helps the skin to absorb the nutrients deeper and quicker. The ‘anti-gravity’ motions keep your skin look more plumper and firmer.  I like to do this Facelift Treatment every alternate week to help the skin look the best.

Blood Circulatory System and Healthy Glowing Skin

Blood circulatory system is very mechanical in nature. In many ways, it works just like a pump circulating blood through a network of unseen vessels.  In the same way that such a pump system would fail if there were wrong with the pump or the vessels became blocked. (Boehike J, 2017)

Most people aren’t aware of how important blood circulation is to your skin health. Your blood circulatory system brings nutrients (oxygen, minerals, vitamins, hormones and other micro-elements) to your skin cells and removes wastes (carbon dioxide, acid, protein by products).   Not only do skin cells require all of these substances, but the cells that comprise the blood vessels also require their own share of nutrients. (Chartie S, 2016)  So blood circulatory system can have a great impact on what you see in the mirror!

When the bloodflow to your dermis is restricted, your skin doesn’t look it best.  Poor blood circulation to your face causes your skin to look pale and pasty.  Also a lack of oxygen and nutrients may cause dark spots, a mottled complexion, slower healing acne wounds, slower cell regeneration, dry skin and leaving you looking aged and more fatigued.

While not all dark circles around the eyes are a result of poor blood circulation but because the skin in the area around our eyes is quite thin, poor circulation results in less oxygenated blood, showing in bluish/ purplish appearance around the eyes.

What remedies that can be used to increase blood flow?

1. Exercise

Exercise improves the oxygen carrying capacity and nourishes the body cells. Daily aerobic activity can improve the circulation of blood and is very essential for healthy body and mind. A rule of thumb is: Getting 20 minutes of aerobic activity at least three times a week helps you to maintain a strong heart. (Tabor, 2017)

2.Eat healthy food

A balanced and healthy diet keeps the good blood circulation. You can include these foods to your diet:- Nuts, Garlic, Ginger, Green tea, Green coffee, Ginseng root, omega-3 fatty acids rich food e.g. avocado & oily fish, Vitamin C-rich fruit and deep green vegetables.

Healthy food helps to maintain the tone of blood vessels and promotes good blood circulation.  In addition, it provides many nutrients and vitamins to leave your skin glowing naturally.

3. Stay hydrated

When you are dehydrated, blood volume and blood output suffer, taxing the heart as it moves blood through your system (Tabor, 2017)

4. Massage

Massage is the most commonly used means of improving bloodflow to your cells.  Massage increases blood circulation as a result of “the physical manipulation of soft tissue and also chemicals released in our face or bodies as part of relaxation response.”  (a) Take both hands and gently stroke your face.  You don’t need to pull on your skin or use a lot of force.  (b) Start at your neck and move up to your cheeks to your forehead.  (c) You can use the back of your hand, i.e. the knuckles, to roll across your face.

Why not take the easier and handy way to massage your face?  The newest Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device has combined the sonic pulsation with the innovative silicone touch points for a deeper and gentler cleansing.  This handy device also gives you facial massage easily when you bathe because of its waterproofing design.  Enjoy this mini pamper to stimulate the bloodflow and oxygen circulation every day.

5. Use of stimulating skin care products

Using skin care products with Ginseng Root, Green Coffee and Co-enzyme Q10 may help to improve blood circulation.

Scientists studies (Kang J, Lee N, Ahn Y, Lee H, 2013) show ginseng root improves blood circulation and the Chlorogenic acid present in the Green coffee is a metabolism booster which imposes a positive effect on the blood vessel and so improving the blood circulation (Nutrinelifepune, 2017).  Try Kathleen Caviar Enrich Eye Cream, which has infused with Ginseng root and Green coffee that helps to reduce dark circles and puffiness under the eyes.

Co-enzyme Q10 is a natural “powerhouse” for our cells to improve the blood circulation and improve our antioxidant defence system (Byron R, 2014).  Try Kathleen Glamour Ageless Anti-Aging Serum that specifically targets to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, protects against dryness and restores softness.

6. Practicing deep breathing

Deep breathing improves the circulation of oxygenated blood in one’s system. It also helps   decrease stress, lower blood pressure. Deep breathing involves: (a) breathing in slowly until your lungs fill up completely, (b) holding one’s breath for 10-15 seconds and (c) letting out ALL of the air slowly, as this removes carbon dioxide and cellular wastes from the body.

Tamanu Seed Oil – A Healing Hero

Renowned for its skin healing abilities, it comes to no surprise that the exotic and precious oil is known as a “healing hero”.

Rich and deep green coloured, Tamanu Oil is extracted by cold pressing and filtrating the Tamanu Nut, grown on a Tamanu Tree. Natives believed the Tamanu Tree was a sacred gift of nature and often used the oil for skincare, haircare and to aid their wellbeing.

“Did you know? It takes 100 kilograms of Tamanu Seed Oil
to produce less than 5 kilograms of cold pressed oil!”

Filled with antioxidants and fatty acids, Tamanu Oil is known to be a natural skin solution – there are many benefits of using the super ingredient for skincare.

Here are just a few benefits of Tamanu Seed Oil for our skin:

  • Anti-Aging

Tamanu Seed Oil helps to stimulate the growth of new tissues and therefore accelerate the healing and growth of healthy skin. The fatty acids found in the oil help to promote collagen and thus works to reduce the appearance of fine-lines and wrinkles, whilst improving the skin’s elasticity.

  • Treats Acne

Tamanu Seed Oil includes anti-bacterial phytochemicals which actions against and destroys the bacteria build-up in the pores which causes acne breakouts and blemishes. The phytochemicals stimulate ‘phagocytic cells’ to take antibiotic action against the bacteria which manifests as acne.

  • Treats Dry Skin

Tamanu Seed Oil quickly absorbs and penetrates into deep layers of the skin ensuring the facial skin is deeply nourished, hydrated and moisturised, as opposed to merely coating the top layer of the facial skin. The fatty acids found in Tamanu Seed Oil helps to restore dry skin without leaving a greasy residue on the skin’s surface.

  • Natural Sunscreen Protection

The anti-oxidant property of Tamanu Seed Oil means the healing hero can be used as natural sunscreen to protect the skin against harsh UV rays of the sun. The xanthones and coumarin components of Tamanu Oil hinder ‘lip peroxidation’ which means it’s suitable for soothing and treating sunburns.

These reasons are why the natives said the Tamanu nut is the sacred gift of nature.  The Tamanu seed oil is a natural skin solution, the healing hero that will leave your skin looking and feeling silky, soft and smooth.

Kathleen Natural has infused this healing hero inside our Refreshing & Lightening Cleansing Lotion that is both pure and organic and suitable for even the very sensitive skins. Our Cleansing Lotion helps to lift dirt, oil, makeup and impurities without drying or sensitizing the skin.
